About Us

The Boston University Undergraduate Economics Association (UEA) is the leading economics student organization sponsored by the Economics Department at BU. Our mission is to build a vibrant economics community on campus by offering academic, social, and professional support to all undergraduates interested in economics. We achieve this through hosting discussions with faculty and industry experts, social events, alumni panels, professional development workshops, and more.

What we do

The UEA hosts a range of events and initiatives to enrich our members' academic and professional growth.

Our activities are designed to engage students through academic events, professional development workshops, blog editing and submissions, contributions to our Undergraduate Economics Journal, and social events that foster a strong sense of community in BU's economics community.

Academic Events and Resources

Our academic events are designed to deepen students' understanding of economics and enhance their skills in the field. These events include guest lectures by professors and industry experts, workshops on econometrics and statistical tools, and moderated discussions on current economic issues. In addition, we maintain a comprehensive database of syllabi for economics courses at BU, as well as data collection resources.

Professional Development

Our professional development events and resources are dedicated to preparing students for successful careers in economics and related fields. We host alumni panels to connect students with industry professionals and explore various career paths, as well as resume reviews, mock interviews, professional headshot events. We aim to equip our members with the skills and confidence needed to excel in internships, research roles, and full-time positions.

Social Events

UEA's social events are all about building a vibrant and inclusive community for economics students at Boston University. From casual meet-and-greets, movie nights, and our annual economics formal, our social events provide a relaxed environment for members to connect, share ideas, and form lasting friendships.

Boston University Undergraduate Economics Journal

The Undergraduate Economics Journal, founded in Spring 2024 by the UEA, is one of our cornerstone initiatives that highlights the academic excellence and research talent of Boston University’s economics students. This student-led publication serves as a platform for undergraduates to share original research, analysis, and perspectives on diverse economic topics. By contributing to the journal either through the journal team or as submitters, students refine their academic writing skills and engage deeply with the discipline, while readers gain valuable insights into current economic issues and ongoing student research.

Economics Blog

The UEA Blog is a platform where Boston University students share their thoughts, insights, and experiences on a wide range of economic topics and current events. By contributing to the blog, students can hone their writing skills, engage with pressing issues, and spark meaningful conversations within the BU economics community.

Fed Challenge Team

BU’s Fed Challenge team, selected and supported by the UEA, competes annually in the College Fed Challenge, presenting economic analyses and monetary policy recommendations to Federal Reserve judges. This experience allows students to deepen their understanding of macroeconomics, develop critical skills like public speaking and data analysis, and explore applications of economic theory in real world settings.
